For the first time under the Biden administration, the US state department had imposed sanctions on two members of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Iran Press/America: The State Department in a statement said that it had placed Ali Hemmatian and Massoud Safdari on the sanctions list.

The US government's sanctions were imposed on Revolutionary Guards officials as the new US administration acknowledged the failure of the so-called maximum pressure policy against Iran.

US President Joe Biden has claimed that he is seeking to use diplomacy to preserve JCPOA and return his country to the agreement.

Iran says the first step for the US to return to the JCPO is through the lifting of all sanctions imposed under the Trump administration.

Biden's administration has said it will not lift sanctions unless Iran steps back from its retaliatory measures towards the withdrawal of the US from JCPOA.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has emphasized that, given that the United States was the party that violated the agreement, it is Washington that must return to the agreement by lifting sanctions. Tehran, of course, has emphasized that it is not in a hurry to get the United States back to the agreement. 219
