Tehran (IP) - Iran’s Minister of Science, Research and Technology said that science-sharing was a hallmark of Jundishapur University, as UNESCO emphasized in its medium and long-term strategies.

Iran PressIran News: In the third International Jundishapur Congress held on Tuesday, Mansour Gholami said that the foundation of such an ancient university with a new approach showed a deep and knowledge-based view of the then-founders of it.

Gholami highlighted respect for human dignity and the avoidance of violence and monopolistic scientific tendencies were the most important components in the statute of the ancient university.

"The sustainable development and promotion of knowledge at the university were defined as scientific activities such that after graduating, the students used to go to other lands and promote science there, too," he explained.

Gholami pointed out that the establishment of Jundishapur University 1,750 years ago showed the endeavor of the Iranians to generate science amid the darkness of world civilization.

The minister of science referred to the registration of the 1750th anniversary of Jundishapur University's establishment in the UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) list as the oldest university in the world and stressed that efforts should be made to revive this ancient academy with the maximum support of domestic and international institutions.
