Rouhani:
Sole lasting way for proximity of nations is to return to knowledge, culture

Tehran (IP) - Iranian President sent a message to the Third International Jundishapur Congress, highlighting that the only lasting way for rapprochement between nations is to return to the clear sources of knowledge and culture.

Iran PressIran news: The 3rd International Jundishapur Congress started its work today, Tuesday, by reading the message of President Hassan Rouhani in the Ministry of Science and in-person and in a video conferencing.

The text of the President's message is as follows: "First of all, I would like to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to the esteemed guests, thinkers, students and all educated domestic and foreign participants on the occasion of 1750th anniversary of the establishment of Jundishapur University as the world oldest university."

The message goes on to say: "Scientific and cultural ties are among the most enduring and lasting ties between nations because the common result of centuries of life and coexistence is flourishing among civilizations. Hence, the wider the scope of scientific and cultural relations, the greater the depth of friendship and empathy between nations. Iran has always been a harbinger of science, knowledge development, and friendship from ancient times to the present day. Evidence of this is the action of UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) in announcing the commemoration of the world event of 'Jundishapur University' as the oldest university in the world with a history of nearly 18 centuries, which is very honorable and admirable work."

The President further pointed out that the Iranians, at the height of extremism and fanatical violence, established the Jundishapur University which at its entrance this inscription is shining.

He added: "Knowledge and virtue are superior to arms and swords which express the deep and civilized attitude of this nation and land in promoting knowledge and wisdom so that in the light of it, nations together promote and highlight human virtues and avoid human vices. Today, we Iranians, based on the teachings of our wise ancestors have two important days in our country's official calendar called interaction and dialogue with the world, the day we agreed after years of negotiations with major world powers, as well as World Day Free from Violence and Extremism, which was unanimously approved by the UN General Assembly in 2013 at my suggestion."

Rouhani's message reads: "I believe that the only lasting way for rapprochement between nations is to return to the clear and pure sources of knowledge and culture, the same way that the ancestors of this land invented with the establishment of the world's oldest university; the university that the representatives of all the ancient civilizations of the world, from Greece and Rome to India, China and Egypt, cherished as a gem in their oyster."
