Tehran (IP) - On the occasion of Arbor Day and Natural Resources Week, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution said the authorities and all of the people must confront environmental degradation.

Iran PressIran News: On the occasion of Arbor Day and Natural Resources Week, Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei said: "Environmental degradation is a great calamity that wastes the future of mankind; Therefore, the authorities and all of the people must confront it."

The Leader of Iran's Islamic Revolution planted two saplings on the eve of Natural Resources Week and National Arbor Day.

Ayatollah Khamenei then called plants and green space an important factor in the life and construction of human civilization, adding: "Planting a tree is one of the virtues that is emphasized in Islam."

The Leader also pointed out the importance of the environment in the constitution, noting: "Environmental activities are religious and revolutionary activities and should not be considered luxurious or decorative ones."

Referring to incidents such as forest fires or the drying up of lakes and wetlands, Ayatollah Khamenei said: "These incidents are preventable and officials who do not perform their duties are to blame."

In another part of his remarks, the Leader addressed the coronavirus issue on the eve of the New Year, noting: "Last year, during the New Year holidays, the dear people of Iran completely observed the health protocols, but this year the danger is greater. So this year, everyone should follow the recommendations too."

He stressed: "Whatever the National Task Force for Fighting Coronavirus announces must be done. If travel is banned, people should not travel, and I will definitely not travel like last year."

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution, expressing dissatisfaction with the costs and problems of living, added: "This situation has created great sorrow on the eve of Nowrouz for people." 

Emphasizing that the officials should solve the problem of livelihood and high prices, he said: "All of these problems have solutions, and we have repeatedly mentioned these points in several meetings."
