Iran voices support for India-Pakistan joint statement

Tehran (IP) - Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman on Sunday welcomed the India-Pakistan joint statement on the bilateral agreement on securing the ceasefire along the Line of Control.

Iran PressIran News: Saeed Khatibzadeh also called the statement an important step in paving the ground for peace and more stability in South Asia, expressing hope that the two sides would move toward peace, stability, and regional prosperity.

A few days ago, India and Pakistan agreed for the first time in the last two decades to observe a ceasefire in the disputed region of Kashmir.

India and Pakistan signed a ceasefire agreement on the Kashmir Line of Control in 2003, but since then both countries have repeatedly violated it and attacked each other's positions.

Kashmir is one of the most contentious issues between India and Pakistan and both countries claim ownership of it.
