Zarif: Attacks, incidents inside Iraq are suspicious

Tehran (IP) - The Iranian Foreign Minister suspected some recent attacks and events inside Iraq that could be designed to disrupt Iran-Iraq relations and its security and stability.

Iran Press/Iran News: During the meeting between Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, various political, economic, and cross-border exchanges were discussed.

Zarif condemned the dangerous US move to attack Iraqi forces in Iraq and Syria's border areas, calling the illegal attacks a violation of the country's sovereignty.

The Iranian foreign minister added: We emphasize the Iraqi government's need to find these incidents' perpetrators.

Referring to the problems encountered by Iranian fuel tankers at the Tamerchin border, Zarif expressed hope that tanker traffic problems between the two countries would be resolved with Iraqi officials' help.

The Iranian Foreign Minister also called for the start of construction and completion of the Shalamcheh-Basra railway to help expand trade relations between the two countries and called on the two countries' relevant officials to act quickly to implement this railway as soon as possible.

During the meeting, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein stressed the need for the two sides to work for the comprehensive expansion of relations and announced Baghdad's readiness to develop Tehran's relations.

Referring to the progress made in the negotiations between the two countries on Iran's access to its financial resources in Iraq, the Iraqi Foreign Minister stressed the country's readiness to facilitate Iran's access to its funds in that country.

Fouad Hussein said: I assure you that Baghdad will not allow the abuse of events in this country to disrupt the excellent relations between the two countries.

During this meeting, Zarif and Fuad Hussein also discussed regional developments.

The Iraqi Foreign Minister, Fuad Hussein, arrived in Tehran this morning to meet with the Islamic Republic of Iran's officials.
