Iran Press/ Iran News: In his speech on Tuesday, Major-General Yahya Safavi pointed to the US-baked 8-year war imposed on Iran and said the behavior of the US and Soviet Union along with some European countries including France, Germany, and the UK in providing the Iraqi Ba'athist regime with hundreds of tons of chemical weapons showed that they violated all international rules.
"The UN Security Council resolution on the Iraq-Kuwait war is a sheer contradiction and double standard between the UN Security Council and its member states regarding Iraq's invasion of Iran, and this is of the legal demands of the Iranian state and nation," General Safavi added in the International Conference on the Legal-International Claims of the Holy Defense.
With the expulsion of the US troops from the region, he stressed, Iran would preserve peace in western Asia and said that the US and Europe must recognize that their political and economic pressures just empowered Iran to defend its rights.
The International Conference on the Legal-International Claims of the Holy Defense was held on Tuesday with the attendance of the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, the Chief of Iran's Judiciary Ebrahim Raisi, Commander of Iran’s elite Quds Force Brigadier General Esmail Ghaani, Chief of Staff of Iran's Armed Forces Major-General Mohamad Baqeri, Top Military Aide to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Major-General Yahya Rahim Safavi and ambassadors and military attachés of various countries.
