Iran Press/Iran News: In a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Hassan Rouhani stated: "As we have said many times, there is no place for Weapons of Mass Destruction, including nuclear weapons, in the country's defense program, and this is the firm opinion of the Islamic Republic."
"But at the same time, we will pursue peaceful nuclear technologies, which is our right," he noted.
Rouhani added: "We are a member of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). We have a contract with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as a safeguard, and we implement the NPT, as we have been implementing it so far. We do not want to have secret nuclear activities, neither yesterday nor today nor tomorrow, and this is a decisive decision of the Islamic Republic of Iran."
"Whether the United States wants it or not, whether Europe wants it or not, if the whole world tells us that it is very good for Iran to have a nuclear weapon, our opinion will not change. Our opinion is the opinion announced by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei as a fatwa, and it is the same covenant that we made in the NPT and the safeguards; we will not break this covenant," he said.
