The leader of the Democratic majority in the US Senate has announced that the impeachment of the former US president will not be postponed due to the Coronavirus crisis in the United States.

Iran PressAmerica: "The impeachment of former US President Donald Trump will not be postponed because of the Coronavirus crisis," Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer told at a news conference on Tuesday 9 February.

"Trump's impeachment will not disrupt the work of the new US administration under President Joe Biden," Schumer told the meeting.

Schumer's remarks came in response to criticism from some Republicans who believe the impeachment of the ousted president will waste time in the Senate to focus on current issues.

Addressing the Republican officials, Schumer said: "Two members of the Biden Committee will be nominated this week, a hearing on such issues will be held in the morning and Trump's trial will be in the afternoon."

Trump is currently the first president in US history to be impeached for a second time, as a Senate majority vote which convicts him of 'inciting insurgency'.

Thousands of Trump supporters stormed the US Capitol on January 6 to prevent Congress to confirm the Presidential election results.

The difference between the second impeachment is that Trump is no longer the president of the United States, while in his first trial he was president.

At present, 67 US senators must condemn Trump, and this will happen if all Democrats in the Senate and 17 Republicans vote in favor.

If that happens, another voting will be held to prevent Trump from running for president again. 219
