Moscow (IP) - Managing Director of National Railways of Russia and Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Russia, reviewed the latest steps taken to speed up the implementation of the International North-South Transport Corridor.

Iran Press/Europe: In a meeting held for this purpose at the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Moscow, Mikhail Pavlov and Kazem Jalali discussed issues related to the corridor, especially the Rasht-Astara railway, and underscored removing obstacles which are of great economic importance for Iran, Russia, and the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Russia, Kazem Jalali, said: "Iran-Russia railway relations are solid, and the two sides are constantly talking to each other. Accordingly, the two sides are trying to launch the north-south transit route, which is very important for the two countries, as soon as possible."

Jalali added: "We hope that this will be done with the cooperation of the three countries of Iran, Russia, and the Republic of Azerbaijan, and on this basis, we have asked the Republic of Azerbaijan to pay more attention in this regard."

Mikhail Pavlov stated: "Today, we talked about critical issues, including increasing Iran's transit potential and developing the north-south international corridor."

Last year in the Iranian calendar (1398), a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Presidents of Iran, Russia, and the Republic of Azerbaijan to complete the North-South Corridor.
