Tehran (IP) - An Iranian health official said Iran and Cuba were about to build the capacity to produce millions of doses of the coronavirus vaccine.

Iran PressIran News: Kianoush Jahanpour, the spokesman of the Iran Food and Drug Administration (IFDA), wrote on Twitter on Friday that Iran has nine active coronavirus vaccine cases and Cuba has four volunteers for the vaccine, adding they are a joint project between the two countries.

"Cuba is preparing for a Phase III clinical trial of the coronavirus vaccine with 150,000 participants. At the same time, 50,000 people in Iran are participating in this phase (Phase III clinical trial of coronavirus vaccine). It is noteworthy that the clinical trial of this vaccine in children and adolescents will also begin in Cuba.

Jahanpour had previously said the third phase of the joint trial of the coronavirus vaccine between the Pasteur Institute of Iran and a Cuban company would be carried out in Iran before the end of the year in the Persian calendar (which starts on March 20.)

He also announced the start of a clinical trial of the third coronavirus vaccine production project in Iran at the Razi Cov Pars Institute.

The first vaccine production project in Iran has reached the human clinical study phase at Barakat Institute after its success in animal studies.
