Iran condemns US blacklisting Cuba as sponsor of terrorism

Tehran (IP) - The Spokesman of Iran's Foreign Ministry condemned the US blacklisting Cuba as a sponsor of terrorism and stressed the solidarity of his country with the Cuban government and the nation's causes against global hegemony.

Iran PressIran news: Saeed Khatibzadeh said on Tuesday that no country, particularly the US, can either intervene in the internal affairs of Cuba or decide for the free country's relations with other free countries.

The US terrorist regime needs to be reminded that Cuba, as an active member of the UN and a pioneer in the fight against imperialism and global arrogance, is completely free, based on its national sovereignty, to maintain relations with its neighboring countries or other points of the world and promote the level of its cooperation," Katibzadeh said and stressed: "No country, especially the US regime, has the right to interfere in Cuba's internal affairs or to decide for the free country to whether establish relations with  another free country or not."

He also stressed: "We reject this action of the US terrorist regime and its political officials due to its double standards in commanding and conducting the terrorist operations in the assassination of Martyr Soleimani, as well as supporting and directing the operations of ISIL and other terrorist groups, and emphasize our will to support and consolidate our relations with Cuba."

While the previous US administration led by Barack Obama removed Cuba from the list of the countries sponsering terrorism, the Donald Trump administration reversed it in its last days.
