Iran Press/America: The U.S. Senate on Thursday morning overwhelmingly rejected a move by allies of President Donald Trump to object to Pennsylvania’s certification of its presidential election results that awarded Democrat Joe Biden the victory, a vote that was delayed by a violent breach of the U.S. Capitol.
The Senate voted 92-7 against the measure.
Also, the House voted to reject an objection to throw out Pennsylvania's Electoral College votes for President-elect Joe Biden. The challenge failed by a vote of 282-138.
The House and the Senate will now reconvene in a joint session to continue to count the remaining Electoral College votes.
This comes after Lawmakers returned to the Capitol late Wednesday to continue counting Electoral College votes, hours after angry rioters overran the building and sent members of Congress fleeing in the most brazen assault on the pillars of American democracy in recent history.
After the vote, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said on the Senate floor that he does not expect any more votes challenging electoral college results.
Pennsylvania will be the last state that will be debated. We expect Wisconsin to be challenged in the House, but there will not be a senatorial signatory to it.
There are 12 states to go.
