Iran's President of Mountaineering Federation:

Tehran (IP) - Reza Zarei, president of the Iran Sport Climbing and Mountaineering Federation, said that fewer climbers would have died if meteorological warnings had been taken seriously.

Iran PressIran News: In an interview with Iran Press Reza Zarei added: "Last Friday, 12 Iranian mountaineers in the mountains around Tehran lost their lives due to avalanches and severe cold."

The President of the Federation said: "Mountaineers should always pay attention to the meteorological warnings, act according to international mountaineering standards and have the necessary training."

"International mountaineering standards emphasize the use of appropriate clothing and having equipment such as GPS during mountaineering," Zarei added.

Zarei said that the mountains of Iran, 260 of which are over 4,000 meters high, have always been of interest to the tourists, and every year foreign tourists come to the heights of Iran.

"Of course, foreign tourists, who are interested in mountaineering, along with professional mountaineering equipment, should use the guides to climb safely," the President of the Federation noted.  215/207
