Speaking at his weekly presser Esmaeil Baghaei said that Tehran’s nuclear program is based on its principles, religious teachings, and defense doctrine and has never been anything but peaceful.
He went on to say that Iran’s “inalienable rights” cannot be waived amid discussions over a potential pause in uranium enrichment: “Iran’s legitimate rights, recognized under international law, are not something that can be overlooked.”
Baghaei further noted that Iran’s right to peaceful nuclear energy is not granted by others and cannot be revoked under pressure or in times of war.
Iran's MFA spokesperson stressed that the rights stem from Iran’s membership in the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, and that Tehran should benefit from them as long as it remains a signatory.
Referring to exchanges of messages regarding talks with the U.S., he said that several messages have been conveyed through a Pakistani intermediary following the return of Iran’s delegation to Tehran on Sunday.
Baghaei added that Iran is likely to host a Pakistani delegation soon, where both sides are expected to discuss their positions in detail.
