Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar expressed deep gratitude to both sides for responding to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s call for an immediate ceasefire in the region and for accepting his invitation to hold peace talks in Islamabad.
The US delegation was headed by Vice President J.D. Vance, while the Iranian delegation was led by Parliament Speaker Bagher Ghalibaf. Both delegations arrived in Pakistan on April 11.
According to the statement, the Deputy Prime Minister, along with the Chief of Defense Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, helped mediate several rounds of intense negotiations over the past 24 hours. The talks concluded on the morning of April 12.
On behalf of Pakistan, Dar thanked both sides for appreciating Pakistan’s efforts in helping achieve the ceasefire and for recognizing its mediatory role.
“We hope that the two sides continue with the positive spirit to achieve durable peace and prospaerity for the entire region and beyond,” the statement read.
Dar emphasized that it is “imperative” for the parties to uphold their commitment to the ceasefire.
He reaffirmed that Pakistan has been, and will continue to play, its role in facilitating engagement and dialogue between Tehran and Washington in the days ahead.
