Tehran (IP) - Following the review of the amendment to the Presidential Election Law's articles, the Iranian MPs approved to set a 15-day deadline for the Guardian Council to review the eligibility of presidential candidates after registration ends.

Iran Press/Iran News: Accordingly, the Guardian Council will review the candidates' qualifications for the presidency within 15 days after the registration deadline.

The results will be passed to the Ministry of Interior by the Guardian Council and then communicated to the public.

The MPs approved this article during the review of the amendment to the Presidential Election Law's articles in open session today (Sunday).

According to the Law, all those directly responsible for conducting or overseeing the presidential election can run if they resign and do not hold office for at least three months before registration.

Members of the Islamic Consultative Assembly opposed the removal of Article 8 of the draft amendment to the Presidential Election Law by requiring the Ministry of Interior to electronic registration of candidates for the presidency.

The lawmakers, Sunday, continued the consideration of the amendment to some items of the Presidential Election Law with the proposal of Mohammad Hossein Farhangi, a member of the Presiding Board, to remove Article 8 of the draft and 16 abstentions agreed.

In Article 8 of the draft law amending the Presidential Election Law, which was removed by the votes of the parliamentarians, the Ministry of Interior is obliged to provide the possibility of registering candidates through the electronic system and simultaneous access to the Guardian Council registration information.

Following the review of the amendment to the Presidential Election Law's articles, MPs approved that there was no need for the candidates to present their written program at the time of registration.
