Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met Monday evening with Omani Foreign Minister Badr Al-Busaidi in Geneva, ahead of the second round of indirect nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States.

Why it matters:

The meeting highlights Oman’s key mediating role as Tehran and Washington resume indirect negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program, signaling ongoing efforts to bridge differences on sensitive technical and political issues.

The big picture:

The Iran-U.S. discussions in Geneva are central to addressing unresolved nuclear issues, including enrichment levels, sanctions, and verification mechanisms. These talks, facilitated by Oman, could shape the future trajectory of the Iran nuclear file and influence broader regional security dynamics.

Details:

The meeting followed standard pre-talk coordination practices and was meant to finalize agendas before official discussions begin.

Talks are scheduled Tuesday morning at the Omani embassy, with Oman acting as mediator.

Earlier Monday, Araghchi met with Rafael Grossi of the International Atomic Energy Agency to present Iran’s technical positions.

The previous round of talks in Muscat on Friday involved Iran and U.S. delegations exchanging views and proposals through Oman. Both sides described the session as “productive” and expressed willingness to continue.
