The Hebrew-language daily Maariv reported that intelligence gathered by Hezbollah on Israel’s strategic facilities and ship movements in its economic waters has surprised Israeli security agencies and the military, and even served as a basis for a recent naval exercise.

Why it matters:

The report indicates that the intelligence confrontation between Israel and Hezbollah has entered a deeper and more sensitive phase.

Israeli concerns center on the scope and precision of Hezbollah’s intelligence regarding energy infrastructure and maritime activity in the Mediterranean.

The big picture:

A military source cited by the newspaper said a significant portion of the information served as the foundation for a recent Israeli Navy drill in the Mediterranean. The multi-day exercise included scenarios involving combat on multiple fronts.

The Israeli military had previously disclosed a commando operation in November 2024 in which it abducted Imad Amahz from Lebanon’s Batroun coast, who had ties to Hezbollah.
