Why it matters:
47 years since the victory of the Islamic Revolution and gaining independence, the Iranian nation has been targeted by the West's pressures, including harsh sanctions and maximum pressure. Yet, each year they come out to support the Islamic Republic despite all the criticism they have and the shortcomings they see.
Driving the news:
People from all walks of life in Iran participated in massive rallies on Wednesday, February 11, to commemorate the 47th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution’s victory in Tehran and other cities across the country.
Ayatollah Khamenei issues a message addressing the Iranian nation:
On this year’s 22 Bahman, you accomplished a great achievement. You made Iran proud, and as always, by supporting the Islamic Republic, you strengthened its power and disappointed the enemies who, in their rhetoric and planning, sought the submission of the Iranian nation.
By God’s grace, you carried out this great deed yesterday, and the Almighty will grant the nation the reward for such a presence and such a magnificent movement that is greater dignity, greater strength, and more complete independence, God willing.
We must strive to preserve national unity and cohesion; all of us must make this effort. This national unity is extremely valuable and precious, that the people come into the streets, repeat a single message, a single slogan, and a single shared aspiration. This is of immense value, and it practically demonstrates that the nation is present on the arena and capable of asserting its identity and character in the face of its enemies.
I thank the entire Iranian nation and extend my warmest greetings to each and every person who took part yesterday in this great, nationwide, million-strong gathering.
Go deeper:
The latest failed attempt of the West to subvert the Islamic Republic was the U.S.-Israeli-backed riots in Iran, where the agents of Mossad and CIA turned the economic protest of the people into violence. The riot was an attempt to commit assassinations and attribute them to the Islamic Republic.
