Iranian President ordered the inauguration of the first phase of the Toos gas field development project, valued at €120 million, along with the Dehloran flare gas gathering and pressure boosting station worth €125 million, marking a new step in expanding the country’s gas infrastructure.

Why it matters:

The projects are part of Iran’s efforts to reduce gas flaring, prevent energy waste, and redirect resources toward economic development and regional growth, as authorities seek to improve efficiency in the energy sector.

Details:

The inauguration took place during the Ten-Day Fajr celebrations marking the 47th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution. The Tous gas field, located about 100 kilometers northeast of Mashhad, holds an estimated 58 billion cubic meters of gas in place and has been developed through domestic investment. The Dehloran facility, located about 40 kilometers southwest of the city, was built to collect and process gas flare and has entered operation with four gas compression units.

What he's saying:

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian: “This action is very valuable, and not even an hour should be lost in this regard.”

“It is not acceptable that 5 million cubic meters of gas, equivalent to $17 million, is burned daily while this amount could be used to do many things for the country’s development and to solve problems.”

Go deeper:

Iranian officials emphasize that reducing gas flaring is a priority in energy policy, both to prevent resource loss and to support local economic development by channeling recovered energy revenues into infrastructure and regional projects.
