Tehran (IP) - Azerbaijani deputy prime minister called the Aras River a common heritage of Iran and Azerbaijan, saying that it is one of the cooperation areas between the two countries.

Iran PressIran news: The Republic of Azerbaijan attaches particular importance to relations with Iran, and the visit of the economic delegation to Iran during the coronavirus outbreak shows this importance, Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev said in a joint press conference with Iran's Energy Minister Reza Ardakanian on Tuesday.

He also thanked Iran for its role in resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and taking a stance based on international law and protecting Azerbaijan’s national sovereignty.

He added that after the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement, he said, peace and stability will be established in the region. These conditions will lead to more cooperation between Iran and Azerbaijan.

Mustafayev also said Azerbaijan cooperates with Iran to synchronize Iran, Azerbaijan, and Russia, and the necessary infrastructure has been provided.

Referring to Iran-Azerbaijan cooperation to build Khoda-Afarin and Quiz Qala'si Hydroelectric Dam Projects, he said: “We discussed the progress of these projects with Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan is ready to accept responsibility for its share in the construction of these projects so that they are completed as soon as possible.”

He added that new areas for cooperation in agriculture and energy had been created on the Aras River banks, which separates the Republic of Azerbaijan from Iran's East and West Azerbaijan provinces in the northwest.

Heading an economic delegation, Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev traveled to Iran on Tuesday and met Iran's Energy Minister Reza Ardakanian.

The meeting was also attended by the Minister of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan Parviz Shahbazov and several Azerbaijani officials.
