Tehran (IP) - Iran's energy minister and Azerbaijani deputy prime minister said the two countries cooperate to synchronize the electricity grids of Iran, Azerbaijan, and Russia.

Iran PressIran news: "All three countries have agreed on this issue,” Iran's Energy Minister Reza Ardakanian said in a joint press conference with Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev on Tuesday.

In this regard, Mustafayev also said Azerbaijan cooperates with Iran to synchronize Iran, Azerbaijan, and Russia's electricity networks, and the necessary infrastructure has been provided. Ardakanian called Azerbaijan an important neighbor for Iran and said the two countries cooperate well in electricity and water.

“We are two countries that have one of the longest-standing joint exploitation of Aras Dam project which backs to 50 years ago,” Iran’s energy minister stressed.

Iran ready to help rebuild Nagorno-Karabakh

Ardakanian expressed Iran’s readiness to help Azerbaijan in the water and electricity sectors to reconstruct the liberated areas in Nagorno-Karabakh. 

“Iranian companies can have an active presence in the reconstruction of this region,” he added. Iran, Azerbaijan discuss progress on Khoda-Afarin and Quiz Qala'si Hydroelectric Dam Projects.

Ardakanian referred to his meeting with the Azerbaijani side, saying: “According to an agreement in 2016, for the construction of Khoda-Afarin and Quiz Qala'si Hydroelectric Dam Projects, a meeting was held today and we hope that an agreement would be reached to share the costs and we could witness the progress of the projects.”

Referring to talks with the Minister of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan Parviz Shahbazov, he said that an agreement had been reached with Azerbaijan on the extension of energy exchanges and that the development of electrical communications was also on the agenda.

Heading an economic delegation, Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev travelled to Iran on Tuesday and met Iran's Energy Minister Reza Ardakanian.

The meeting was also attended by the Minister of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan Parviz Shahbazov and several Azerbaijani officials.
