Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson blamed the United States for committing “crimes against humanity” and fuelling instability in West Asia, stating that Iran has documented U.S. actions and pursued legal cases in international courts, including the International Court of Justice.

Why it matters:

The statment seeks to position Tehran as a victim of Western aggression while emphasizing its commitment to legal and defensive measures rather than offensive action.Baghaei’s remarks aim to reinforce the fact that U.S. sanctions, military aggressions, and regional alliances cause humanitarian harm and undermine stability in the Persian Gulf.

The big picture:

The statements come amid heightened regional strain following recent clashes involving Israel, the U.S., and Iranian interests. Following the U.S.-Israeli-backed terrorist riots in Iran, the United States has publicly stated its objectives for the unrest.

What he's saying:

Baghaei urged both domestic and international institutions to hold the U.S. accountable for actions ranging from the downing of an Iranian passenger plane to sanctions harming civilians, calling them explicit violations of international law.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry has filed multiple legal complaints against the U.S. at global judicial bodies.

Baghaei cited the downing of Iran Air Flight 655, U.S. sanctions on women and children, and the assassination of General Qassem Soleimani as examples of crimes that must be pursued.

He said Iran will continue bringing these cases before both national and international courts.

Responding to a question about rising tensions, he argued that “Iran is not the source of escalation, it is the United States.”

Iran’s Position on So-Called Gaza Peace Mechanisms: The Right to Self Determination Is the Core Issue

In response to an exclusive Iran Press question regarding the establishment of a “Gaza High Peace Council” with the participation of figures such as members of U.S. President Trump's family and Tony Blair and Israel’s announcement that it does not recognize the mechanism, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson outlined Iran’s principled position:

“Since the establishment of the ceasefire, Iran has always welcomed any process that would reduce the pain and suffering of the Palestinian people. However, we have simultaneously warned that so called peace processes must not become a pretext for sidelining the core issue, which is the Palestinian people’s right to self determination.”

He concluded by describing Israel’s explicit opposition to these developments as a significant indicator, adding: “This open opposition shows that the Zionist regime continues to insist on the eradication of the Palestinian people as an independent nation"
