Deputy Head of Iran’s Fisheries Organization for Planning and Resource Management emphasizes the transformative role of digitalization and AI in the fisheries sector, highlighting how these tools can boost productivity, cut costs, improve product quality, and advance sustainable development.

Why it matters:

The integration of AI into Iran’s fisheries industry signals a broader push toward digital transformation in food security. By fully digitizing services, the organization aims to modernize operations, strengthen sustainability, and position the private sector as a key driver of innovation.

The big picture:

Artificial intelligence is increasingly seen as a critical tool in global food systems, from aquaculture to agriculture. Iran’s move to fully digitize fisheries services reflects a regional trend of leveraging technology to address resource challenges, improve efficiency, and ensure long‑term food security.

What he's saying:

At a confernce on AI role in agriculture and food industry, Esia Golshahi pointed to the private sector’s growing role in investing in and executing digitalization projects, calling it a cornerstone of industry growth.

He stressed the need for stronger support to ensure private sector contributions continue to expand.

Under Iran’s Seventh Development Plan, the goal was to digitize 20% of fisheries services annually.

Golshahi announced that, with cooperation from internal teams and private partners, the target has been surpassed: 100% of services are now delivered electronically and intelligently.
