The United World Wrestling (UWW) has announced the nominees for the best freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestlers of 2025, with Iran making a strong showing by placing five athletes on the list.

The Iranian freestyle wrestling team has finished as world runner-up 9 times, in 1971, 1973, 1995, 2006, 2011, 2014, 2015, 2022, and 2023, and has placed third 14 times.

The Iranian Greco-Roman wrestling team won its first world championship title in 2014, has three runner-up finishes in 2009, 2021, and 2023, and two third-place finishes in 2011 and 2017.
