Why it matters:
Iran says the PGCC’s recurring statements—drafted under Emirati pressure—are politically motivated attempts to distort historical realities, undermine Iran’s territorial integrity, and sow tension in the Persian Gulf.
The big picture:
The PGCC’s 46th summit statement reiterated the UAE’s baseless longstanding territorial claims.
Iran maintains that the three islands are an inseparable and sovereign part of its territory, a position rooted in centuries of continuous and effective administration.
Tehran says some PGCC members have been aligning with external actors to create instability in the region.
What he’s saying:
Baghaei:
“The islands of Abu Musa, Greater Tunb, and Lesser Tunb are integral and eternal parts of the territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Any territorial claim against them is null, baseless, and contrary to the principles of good-neighbourliness.”
“Centuries of Iran’s effective and uninterrupted sovereignty cannot be altered by repeating false claims. Such rhetoric creates no rights for the claimant.”
“Iran has always pursued policies based on neighbourliness and regional cooperation. We call on the UAE and the PGCC to avoid provocative positions that contradict these principles.”
On the Arash gas field dispute (Dorrah field):
“Iran will vigorously pursue its rights in the Arash field. Unilateral claims have no legal validity. A fair and lasting agreement requires bilateral dialogue, joint efforts, and a constructive atmosphere.”
Go deeper:
Iran says the Arash field issue must be resolved through direct talks, not external pressure or unilateral interpretations.
