Iran Press/Iran News: Saeed Khatibzadeh, the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, on Thursday, in response to the adoption of the anti-Iranian resolution in the UN General Assembly, called the resolution "illegal" and denounced the resolution's approach in using international institutions as a tool to put pressure on Iran.
Referring to the record of many of the main founders of the resolution in gross and systematic violations of human rights, especially through military intervention in other countries and selling weapons to dictatorial regimes, Khatibzadeh said that it was approved by half of the UN member states and the non-accession of more than 110 countries. In fact, it is the same text that was recently approved by the Third Committee of the General Assembly with similar votes and was approved in the General Assembly according to the UN procedure.
Expressing disgust over the deep-seated hypocrisy of the resolution's founders, who, under the influence of US bullying, turned a blind eye on the Western country's economic terrorism against the Iranian people and instead of condemning US illegal and inhumane sanctions, de facto reduced themselves to US allies, Khatibzadeh advised Canada and other key proponents of the resolution to stop intervening and immoral treatment of independent nations.
Khatibzadeh added: "Such non-constructive measures not only do not help to promote the human rights situation globally, but also fuel negative stereotypes and political labeling against independent countries."
The spokesman for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs described Canada's action and the main founders of the resolution in line with their policy of projecting human rights and stressed that the repetition of false reports by these countries against the Iranian people only further discredits human rights claims.
The UN General Assembly on Wednesday adopted a Canadian resolution on the human rights situation in Iran. The resolution was passed by 82 votes to 30, with 64 abstentions.
The resolution had previously been initially approved by the Third Committee of the General Assembly. Less than 80 members of the United Nations, including the Zionist regime, the United States, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Albania, Britain, Canada, France and Germany, voted in favor of the resolution. However, the majority of the 115 members of the United Nations refused to support the resolution, which is a clear sign of the dissatisfaction of the majority of countries with the arrogant and selective approach of the founders of the resolution.
