Iraq recorded a significant 13 percent increase in voter participation during its 2025 parliamentary elections, reversing a two-decade downward trend. Turnout, which had fallen from 70 percent in 2005 to just 42 percent in 2021, climbed to 55 percent this year.

Prime Minister of Iraq hailed the development, declaring: “We have taken another step toward safeguarding our constitutional system by surpassing a 55 percent participation rate in the parliamentary elections.”

This marks the highest voter engagement since 2010, signaling renewed public confidence in Iraq’s democratic process.
