Iran’s Parliament Speaker, Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf, has condemned U.S. President Donald Trump’s admission of direct responsibility for Israel’s June 13 attack on Iran, calling it "a blatant violation of international law" and Iran’s sovereignty.

Why it matters:

Trump’s remarks mark a rare acknowledgment of U.S. involvement in Israeli acts of aggression against Iran. Tehran views this as proof of Washington’s direct aggression, raising the stakes in an already volatile regional conflict.

The big picture:

On June 13, Israel carried out a major strike against Iran. Recently, Trump told reporters at the White House that he was “responsible and in charge” of the attack, describing it as “very powerful.”

He claimed the initial strike caused more damage than all subsequent attacks.

The assault killed many civilians and violated the UN Charter.

What they’re saying:

Qalibaf said the U.S. must accept the political, legal, and military consequences of its aggression.

“The Iranian nation stands united and strong against any threat and will hold aggressors accountable,” he added.

“On behalf of the Iranian people, I strongly condemn this heinous act. The U.S. must face consequences under international law.”

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmail Baghaei called Trump’s statement “an explicit admission of America’s responsibility for an illegal act and a grave breach of international law.”

“America must be held accountable and answer for this violation,” Baghaei added.

Bottom line:

Iran is framing Trump’s admission as evidence of U.S. aggression and is demanding accountability under international law. The statement escalates tensions and could further complicate efforts to stabilize the region.
