Driving the news:
Speaking at the National Exports Day ceremony in Tehran on Tuesday, Pezeshkian said the government will take decisive action to address inefficiencies that have long impeded the country’s producers, exporters, and entrepreneurs.
The big picture:
The President emphasized that economic empowerment requires coordination among the three branches of power and active participation of the private sector. He underscored that the Leader has “repeatedly stressed the need to facilitate the business environment,” but admitted that “it has been our own inefficiency and incapacity that have kept these problems unresolved.”
What he is saying:
"We are determined to fix and remove every issue that, like a domestic sanction, creates an obstacle for economic actors," Pezeshkian said. He added, "The heads of the legislative and judicial branches are fully aligned with the government, and the Leader has firmly emphasized facilitating economic activity."
Highlighting the value of the private sector, the President said, "As Imam Ali (AS) stated, traders and producers are the foundation of a stable society, and we must do everything possible to improve their conditions and business vitality."
Pezeshkian called for stronger cooperation between the government and private entrepreneurs to accelerate reforms.
He said regular meetings are held with Iran’s Chamber of Commerce and the Entrepreneurs’ Assembly to address production challenges.
The President criticized the small volume of Iran’s foreign trade, questioning why it should remain below $100 billion and not grow toward $1 trillion.
He called for bold economic goals, asserting that "we achieve only what we believe and demand."
Pezeshkian urged government ministers — particularly economic and foreign affairs officials — to directly engage with business leaders.
Zoom in:
Pezeshkian revealed that since taking office, his administration has formed specialized working groups involving private sector representatives and executive agencies, meeting weekly to tackle industrial and trade bottlenecks. He personally reviews their reports monthly.
State of play:
The 14th government has placed economic revitalization at the heart of its agenda, pursuing both domestic regulatory reforms and improved trade relations — particularly with neighboring countries — to expand Iran’s regional economic footprint.
