The spokesman for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esmail Baghaei, said in a press conference regarding the expiration of Resolution 2231 that the opposition of the two permanent members of the United Nations Security Council to the European countries’ initiative effectively meant that the Security Council failed to decide on reinstating the revoked resolutions.

What he's saying:

Speaking at his weekly press conference, Baghaei added that with the expiration of UN Security Council Resolution 2231 on October 18, the provisions of the resolution have officially come to an end.

He emphasized, however, that Iran’s rights under the framework of the resolution, including the right to uranium enrichment and the development of peaceful nuclear activities, remain valid.

"The JCPOA was, from the beginning, a temporary and conditional understanding under which Iran implemented transparency measures in its nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of illegal sanctions", Baghaei added.

The spokesman stated that Iran fully complied with its commitments until 2019, a fact confirmed in 15 official reports by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

"The United States, by withdrawing from the JCPOA in 2018, and the European countries by following its lead, effectively violated the agreement and failed to fulfill their obligations," he added.

The Non-Aligned Movement supported Iran's nuclear stance

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman announced that the 19th Interim Meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Non-Aligned Movement in Uganda has expressed its firm support for the Islamic Republic of Iran’s positions on the nuclear issue. This backing, reflected in the meeting’s final statement, comes in response to attempts by three European countries and the United States to reinstate previously repealed UN Security Council resolutions.

Referring to the significance of the meeting, Baghaei stated, “This event not only reflected the international community’s opposition to unilateralism and its emphasis on the rule of law in the global arena, but it was also of particular importance from the perspective of the resolutions."

Slamming continued killings in Palestine

The spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated that, despite the recent so-called peace agreement in Gaza, violence and killings continue in the occupied Palestinian territories, with more than 80 ceasefire violations reported.
