Why it matters: Comparing Donald Trump with Cyrus the Great totally ignores the fact that Trump has aided and abetted genocide in Gaza, providing the Israeli army's killing machine with all sorts of weaponry.
The big picture:
The ceremony commemorating the 2,550th anniversary of the declaration of the world's first human rights charter was held in Moscow with the presence of a group of ambassadors and culture enthusiasts, an event that included a sarcastic remark by the Iranian ambassador directed at those who called Donald Trump, the President of the United States, 'Cyrus.'According to IRNA, the Iranian Embassy in Moscow reported on Tuesday evening that this ceremony, hosted by the Russian State University of Cinematography, was attended by the university president along with the ambassadors of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan in Moscow, as well as a group of faculty members and students of the host university.
The values enshrined in the Iranian Charter of Human Rights:
The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran at this ceremony, held with the presence of Masoud Ahmadvand, Cultural Counselor of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, said: The Iranian Charter of Human Rights, which was issued 2,550 years ago, includes values such as freedom, tolerance, human dignity, and peaceful coexistence, whereas the New Declaration of Human Rights was adopted in December 1948. Kazem Jalali, referring to the antiquity of the world’s first human rights charter, added: This highlights the gap between the West and the East in the realms of civilization and human rights. At that time, the concept of freedom, including religious, cultural, and social freedom, was recognized by the Iranians. Jalali, emphasizing the importance of understanding today’s global challenges for the realization of genuine human rights, stated: In the 21st century, we are confronted with challenges such as extremism, aggression, injustice, and inequality; these indicators point to the necessity of returning to civilizational traditions.
What the ambassador is saying:
Ambassador Jalali stated that Eastern civilization has always been based on emphasizing the culture of tolerance, safeguarding human dignity, and peaceful coexistence. He remarked: We witnessed one of the officials of the criminal Zionist regime using the phrase 'Trump as the Great Cyrus.' It should be reminded to those who address the U.S. president in such a manner that one cannot call someone who supports the massacre of tens of thousands in a small land called Gaza a supporter of human rights. Jalali emphasized: Today, we need to respect both human rights and individual rights as well as collective rights of people as a nation. This is precisely what exists in Eastern culture, especially in Islamic Iran, where Jews, Christians, and Zoroastrians currently live together peacefully; similarly, as we see today in Russia, the Abrahamic religions coexist peacefully.
Referring to the high status of Iranian civilizational traditions in the countries of the region, he added: We must use these meetings to strengthen relations and inner unity among our nations and to thwart the efforts of those seeking to create divisions among long-established and civilized peoples. Jalali, emphasizing the establishment of strong foundations for the development of relations between countries based on human principles and values and respect for human rights, noted: Today, the senior officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation are consulting and deliberating together to strengthen bilateral and regional relations and are making serious efforts to enhance interactions.
