Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, met with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri in Beirut on Saturday during his visit to attend the first anniversary of the martyrdom of Hezbollah Secretary-General Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah.

Why it matters:
The meeting underscores Iran’s ongoing engagement with Lebanon’s political leadership amid regional tensions, while also reflecting Tehran’s support for Hezbollah and its leaders.

The big picture:
Larijani’s second visit to Beirut since assuming his current role underscores Iran’s determination to strengthen ties with Lebanon at a politically sensitive time. His participation in the commemoration of Hezbollah leaders, including Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah and Seyyed Hashem Safi al-Din, highlights Tehran’s role as a key ally of the resistance axis.

What he is saying:
Upon arrival at Beirut’s Rafic Hariri Airport, Larijani expressed his satisfaction at returning to Lebanon, saying: “I am very happy that in such a short time, I was once again able to travel to the very important country of Lebanon.” He stressed that a key purpose of his visit was to attend the memorial for “the dear martyrs who defended Lebanon.”

Larijani added: “During this brief visit, there will also be other meetings, which we hope will be beneficial  for all countries.”
