Speaking on Wednesday in New York during a meeting with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, Pezeshkian said Western governments must demonstrate commitment to their obligations if dialogue is to have substance. He stressed that the current situation has emerged because the Western side has failed to honor its commitments.
Reiterating Iran’s principled stance, the president underlined that the Islamic Republic has never pursued nuclear weapons and never will, citing both religious foundations and clear political doctrine. He said Western suspicions toward Iran’s peaceful nuclear program are rooted in misunderstanding and partly fueled by fabricated propaganda from the Israeli regime.
“The Western countries must show adherence to their obligations for any understanding to carry real meaning,” Pezeshkian stated, cautioning that activating the snapback mechanism would end the purpose of dialogue altogether.
For his part, the Norwegian prime minister said Western countries are determined to resolve the existing issues, emphasizing the need to seek solutions that could address concerns and avert the re-imposition of sanctions.
