In a powerful address at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the King of Spain strongly condemned the humanitarian catastrophe inflicted on Gaza, describing it as "a disgrace to the international community and a wound to the human conscience".

King Felipe VI called for an immediate end to the killing of civilians, the destruction of schools and hospitals, and the starvation of the population.

“We cannot remain silent or turn a blind eye,” the monarch declared, urging Israel to halt its military operations. While affirming Israel’s right to self-defense, he stressed that this right must not come at the expense of human rights.

The Spanish King also called on the international community to fulfill its responsibilities by advancing a two-state solution and facilitating the immediate delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza. He expressed hope that Spain’s recognition of a Palestinian state would contribute to peace and regional stability.

Turning to global affairs, he denounced Russia’s war in Ukraine as unjustified and reaffirmed Spain’s commitment to supporting peace efforts. He expressed concern about the global erosion of democratic values and the erosion of principles essential for peaceful coexistence.

“The United Nations is not only useful in our time; it is indispensable,” King Felipe VI told the UN General Assembly, pledging Spain’s continued support for a just and lasting peace based on international law.
