Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez delivered a speech at the United Nations General Assembly, declaring that a peaceful resolution between Israel and Palestine is unattainable while Palestinians face the Israeli genocide.

Addressing the summit on Monday, Sánchez stated, “A two-state solution is not possible when the population of one of those two states is the victim of a genocide.”

He condemned Israel’s genocidal campaign in Gaza and emphasized the urgent need to halt the violence. “The Palestinian people are being annihilated,” he said. “In the name of reason, international law, and human dignity, we have to stop this slaughter.”

Sánchez also called for the immediate recognition of Palestine and urged the United Nations to grant it full membership. “This conference marks a milestone, but it’s not the end of the road. It’s only the beginning,” he said. “The State of Palestine must be a full member of the United Nations. The process must be completed as soon as possible, on equal footing with other states.”

The Spanish leader has been one of the most outspoken critics of Israel’s offensive in Gaza, which began after Hamas’s October 7, 2023, attacks. Spain, along with Ireland and Norway, officially recognized the State of Palestine in May.
