The World Health Organization (WHO) announced it will remain in Gaza despite intensified Israeli military operations and evacuation orders forcing civilians to move south.

Why it matters:

As Israeli forces increase attacks on Gaza City, the WHO’s decision to stay indicates defiance against forced relocation and highlights the humanitarian community’s commitment to frontline aid delivery to Gaza under Israeli fire.

The big picture:

The death toll in the Gaza Strip has risen to 64,718 since the start of Israel’s genocidal war on the Strip, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza.

In the past 24 hours alone, 72 people were reported killed and 356 others injured.

The ministry also reported that 411 people have died due to starvation, including 142 children, as humanitarian conditions continue to deteriorate under the ongoing Israeli blockade and bombardment.

What they’re saying:

In a statement posted on X, WHO expressed “outrage” over Israeli directives for mass evacuation and affirmed that it, along with its partners, will continue operating in Gaza.

The international body condemned the pressure to depopulate the city, calling the military orders unacceptable and disruptive to humanitarian efforts.
