Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his Qatari counterpart Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani strongly condemned, during a phone call, the Israeli regime's military attack on Qatar, with Iran expressing full solidarity with Doha.

Why it matters:

The call highlights growing regional alignment against the Israeli regime's aggression following its unprecedented attack on a Persian Gulf state that hosts a major U.S. military base, which may lead to diplomatic isolation for the Israeli regime.

The big picture:

More than 10 strong explosions were reported in Qatar. News sources reported several explosions in the center of Doha, with columns of smoke rising from the "Katara" area. The target was reported to be the residence of several members of Hamas's political office in Doha.

What they're saying:

  • Both ministers emphasized the need for regional unity and international action against the Zionist regime.

  • Iranian Foreign Minister called the attack "a clear violation of the fundamental principles and foundations of the UN Charter and international law."

  • Araghchi described the Zionist regime as "a real and immediate threat to regional and international peace and security."

  • He emphasized that stopping the Israeli regime's crimes requires "practical unity and coordination of regional countries, including by cutting all economic and diplomatic relations with this regime."

  • The Qatari FM appreciated the messages of solidarity and support from the Islamic Republic of Iran at the highest levels and emphasized the need for regional unity against the Zionist regime's criminal behavior.

  • He stated that Doha "will take all necessary measures to protect Qatar's national security against the aggression of the Zionist regime."
