Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi arrived in Cairo for an official visit, where he met with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty to discuss bilateral and regional issues.

Why it matters:

This is Araghchi's first visit to Cairo after a 12-day Israel-U.S.-imposed war on Iran. Visiting the IAEA General Director to discuss a new form of cooperation is the most important part of this visit.

The big picture:

After the Israeli attack on Iran in June 2025, Iran has reviewed its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and Iran's Parliament has also ratified a new law indicating that the new chapter of cooperation between Tehran and IAEA must be based on that.

During the trip to Cairo, a meeting will be held with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency to finalize negotiations on the new framework for Iran-IAEA cooperation.

What he's saying:

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei wrote on X that Iran's Foreign Minister will also meet with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
