Iran Press/ Iran News: Speaking during the inauguration of Khaf-Herat railway via videoconferencing on Thursday, the Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Mohammad Eslami said: "The slogan 'One Culture, One History, Two Nations' contributes to the expansion of Iran-Afghanistan ties more than ever."
Eslami added that the Khaf-Herat railway has the capacity to transport 6 million tons of cargo and one million passengers to Afghanistan, and will create a large share for Iranian and Afghan retailers in the transit of goods.
"In the past eight months,10 million tons of transit cargo has been transferred from Iran, and the goal is to achieve 50 million tons of transit cargo, which with the opening of the Khaf-Herat railway, an important part of the transit of goods from Iran to Afghanistan will be done," added Eslami.
According to Eslami, the Khaf-Herat railway will enable the transit of cargo from Afghanistan to Europe, and Iran's export cargo to Afghanistan as well.
The big railway project of Khaf-Herat is being officially put into operation in the presence of the Presidents of the Republic of Iran and Afghanistan via videoconferencing.
The project is about 140 km long and now all its stations and lines are ready for operation.
Operation of the Khaf-Herat railway is an important step in the development of the railway network, which can increase Iran's share in the transit of goods between Europe and Asia, and strengthen its position in the east-west corridors.
