Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar, in a briefing on the UNSC meeting about the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, said that Palestinians are forced to choose between two deadly things daily. Death by starvation or death by bullet while reaching aid centers.

Why it matters:

The situation in the Gaza Strip has become extremely fragile, and Israel is trying to pressure the international community and Hamas by starving the Palestinians.

The big picture:

A session took place at the United Nations Security Council on Tuesday at Israel's request to discuss the situation of Israeli captives held by Hamas. However, the primary outcome of the meeting was that many countries expressed a desire to end the Gaza war.

What he's saying:

Asim Iftikhar said that over 1,200 deaths have occurred since May while Palestinians are accessing aid. He stated that even the distribution of aid to Palestinians has become a deadly endeavor.

He added that “hunger is everywhere in Gaza, which is visible in the faces of children and parents risking their lives to obtain basic supplies.”

"Palestinians are forced to choose between two deadly things daily.  Death by starvation or death by bullet while reaching aid centers."

Asim Iftikhar added that over 60,000 people in Gaza, among them more than 18,500 children, have been killed since the war began.

A Palestinian child has been killed every hour, He said.
