Muslim people in southwestern Nigerian staged a rally on Monday to show their anger to the Israeli-U.S. genocidal crime, including the use of starvation against the people of Gaza in Palestine.

Why it matters:

According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, at least 18 people have died of starvation in Gaza in the last 24 hours, as Israel’s blockade on the enclave continues. On Sunday, Israeli forces have killed at least 115 Palestinians across Gaza, including 92 people who were shot dead while trying to get food at the Zikim crossing in the north and aid points in Rafah and Khan Younis in the south.

The Big Picture:

Here in in Dopemu area of Lagoa State, the protesters from different walks of life, under the leadership of the Grand Mufti of the Conference of Islamic Organizations (CIO), Sheikh Dhikirullah Shafi'i were carrying placards bearing messages as "Free Free Palestine," Free Free Gaza," "From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be Free."

The people started their rally from Anwarul Islam College in the Second largest City of the West African country.

What he's saying:

Sheikh Shafi'i, a prominent Nigerian Islamic scholar: "The illegal occupant of Palestine, Israel, with the support of America and Europe is making lives unbearable for people in Gaza, the West Bank, and all over the nook and crannies of Palestine."

"We are playing our own part today by calling everyone to support the people of Gaza."

Sheikh Shafi'i called on the government at all levels, religious leaders, and those in positions of authority to support the cause of Palestine.
