Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is gradually opening up its place in the global arena and going beyond the regional arena, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said before participating in the SCO summit, adding that "Israeli-U.S. attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities will be discussed at the summit.

Why it matters:

More than 120 countries and international and regional organizations, including the Non-Aligned Movement, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, BRICS, and the SCO, have determined to reach a main goal among others, that is to strengthen multilateralism against U.S. unilateralism.

The summit fosters dialogue on current international issues. On the sidelines of the summit, meetings with the Chinese and Russian foreign ministers, as well as with several other SCO member state representatives, are on the Iranian Foreign Minister's agenda.

Abbas Araghchi stated that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization is gradually expanding its presence on the global stage, moving beyond its regional scope. He added that the organization is to address a wide range of issues in both economic and political-security dimensions.

Araghchi said: "In this summit, the development strategy of the organization and its countries in the fields of energy and trade, as well as other areas, will be finalized, and the current international discussions will naturally take place."
