Tehran (IP)- A spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran announced the first foreign visit of the new Syrian Foreign Minister to Iran and said that Faisal Mekdad will meet with his Iranian Counterpart.

Iran PressIran news: Saeed Khatibzadeh announced on Sunday that the new Foreign Minister of Syria, Faisal Mekdad would pay his first foreign visit to Iran and meet with Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and other officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad appointed Faisal Mekdad as the country's new foreign minister on November 22, following the late Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem.

Faisal Mekdad joined the Syrian Permanent Mission to the United Nations in 1995, serving on various UN committees and representing Syria at many international conferences.

He was appointed Syrian Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in 2003, which he held until 2006.
