In a speech delivered via video conference at the Eurasian Economic Union, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian condemned recent military strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran’s nuclear facilities, calling them “a gross violation of international law” and “an irreparable blow” to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty by a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.

Pezeshkian said the Israeli attacks included “illegal and criminal operations” targeting off-duty military personnel, university professors, and civilians.

He said that numerous civilians were killed in strikes on residential areas, public infrastructure, hospitals, and medical centers, with many more injured.

Referring to the recent 12-day conflict, the president said Iranian armed forces acted in legitimate self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter. “Had the Zionist regime’s aggression gone unanswered,” he warned, “it could have triggered an all-out and uncontrollable war in the region.”

He urged the international community, particularly the UN Security Council and the International Atomic Energy Agency, to take a more “responsible stance” toward what he described as aggressors and warmongers.

“It is now clearer than ever,” Pezeshkian concluded, “that the policy of appeasement toward the Zionist regime must be abandoned.”
