On Wednesday, Rafael Grossi responded to the draft law passed by Iran’s Parliament, stressing that the international community cannot accept a halt in inspections of Iran’s nuclear facilities.
Referring to the fact that the inspection mechanisms at Iran’s nuclear sites are inactive, he stated that Iran possesses nuclear technical knowledge as well as industrial capacity, and that no one can deny this.
Grossi added that “the return of inspectors to Iran’s nuclear facilities is a top priority.”
Grossi’s remarks come amid reports that recently obtained Israeli secret documents—acquired through a complex intelligence operation—reveal his cooperation with Israel against Iran.
Iranian Parliament passed the bill on Wednesday, citing the IAEA’s involvement in a recent Israeli attack on Iranian territory as justification.
According to Alireza Salimi, a member of the Iranian Parliament’s presiding board, the bill bans IAEA inspectors from entering Iran unless the safety of nuclear facilities is guaranteed. He stated that the suspension applies to cooperation under the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement and other treaties.
