MOSCOW — Russia and Iran have reaffirmed their commitment to close cooperation in a bid to prevent further escalation in the Middle East and to restore momentum toward a diplomatic and political resolution, according to a statement released by the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The announcement followed a meeting in Moscow between Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov and Iranian Ambassador Kazem Jalali.

“The parties discussed the growing tensions surrounding the Iranian nuclear program, which have been triggered by attacks on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities operating under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA),” the ministry said.

Both sides underscored the importance of “continued close coordination aimed at preventing further escalation” and expressed support for resolving the crisis through international law, with full respect for Iran’s legitimate rights and interests.
