In a letter addressed to the "United Nations Independent Expert on the Promotion of a Democratic and Equitable International Order", Iran’s ambassador in Geneva, Ali Bahreini, called for global condemnation of the United States’ military strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.

Bahreini described the June 22 U.S. airstrikes on nuclear facilities of Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan, sites under full supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency, as a “flagrant violation” of Article 2(4) of the United Nations Charter and a breach of fundamental principles of international law.

“These aggressive actions not only undermine the core principles of the international order,” Bahreini wrote, “but also infringe upon the Iranian people’s right to live in peace, dignity, and security.”

He further warned that the strikes signal a shift from international legal norms to “the use of power instead of law,” and from multilateralism to unilateral action.

The letter also expressed concern over the international community’s silence. “The inability of relevant bodies to condemn these actions casts doubt on their legitimacy and impartiality,” he wrote, “turning the international legal order into a superficial and ineffective construct.”

Acknowledging the Independent Expert’s earlier condemnation of military actions by Israel, Bahreini called for similar consistency in addressing U.S. military attack.

He concluded by urging the expert to show “principled and courageous leadership,” which, he said, would send “a clear message to violators of global sovereignty and peace.”
