This meeting was convened at the formal request of the Islamic Republic of Iran to IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi.
In a statement issued by Iran’s mission in Vienna ahead of today’s session, Tehran condemned the U.S. strike as “a blatant violation of international law, including the UN Charter, the Agency’s Statute, and the NPT itself. This action inflicts a deep, structural blow to the legal credibility and cohesion of the NPT regime and the global non-proliferation system.”
This marks the second extraordinary Board meeting in just seven days addressing the attack on Iran’s nuclear sites. At last week’s session, eleven member states issued a joint declaration condemning the Israeli military strike on Iran’s facilities as a “gross violation of international law,” and urged both the IAEA and the UN Security Council to take immediate measures to prevent any repeat of such aggression.
